Davis Little Nut

Davis Metal Fixture Co., Lansing, MI, c. 1934, 8". This is the smallest vendor I can think of. Bill Enes was sure that Davis was the forerunner to the Little Nut Vendor Co. He describes why in his description of this machine, so I won't repeat his rationale here.

I've seen a couple of variations. The one pictured in the book has a thin rod that protrudes through the lid into the product compartment, and could be used to agitate the product. The machine pictured above is plainer; you have to pick this one up and shake it if you want to accomplish the same thing. Shake it hard enough and you can agitate the machine's owner, too.

The example above is 100% original. Before I bought this I'd heard that this style of Little Nut was painted green around the baseplate and the midsection, while the midsection and lid were bare aluminum. This one has thin original paint on those same parts.
