Mo-Jo Lasting Sweet

Chicle Products Co., Newark, NJ, c. 1915, 12 1/2". Bill Enes wrote a pretty thorough description of this and other Mo-Jo machines in Silent Salesmen Too, so I'll refer you to that rather than repeat the information here. My only comment here is that the body is made of bakelite, which by itself makes this model unusual.

This particular machine showed up at the Fall 2000 Chicago show. A friend of mine bought it, but he already had one at home so this was a dupe. Through a strategic combination of pleading, groveling and promising favors of a type best left undescribed on a public website, I got him to sell it to me before he left the show. I'd bet that his profit on this paid for his trip, but the price was nevertheless fair. I appreciated the fact that he was willing to sell it to me rather than take it home and display twins. It's a beautiful example, 100% original and without any cracks or chips in the bakelite or glass.
