John Chatillon & Sons, New York NY, 11 1/2". This scale weighs up to $10 in pennies and translates the weight into dollars. As I understand it, this was used by vendors to weigh the money in machines placed at a site so that the vendor could pay the site's owner his cut on the spot. This amount was approximate but I'd bet it's not far off, and if errs then it errs in the vendor's favor half the time and in the business owner's favor the other half. It all evened out in the end.
The face of the scale says the following:
John Chatillon & Sons
New York, N.Y.
