Reliance Pencil Corp., Mt. Vernon, NY, c. 1940's?, 16 1/4". I'm estimating the date on this based on its design; it could be as early as the 1930's or as late as the 1960's---I don't really know. I've seen a few examples of this model but it's not in Silent Salesmen Too and I don't know any particulars beyond what's listed on the machine. The black baseplate is cast iron and the rest of the machine is thick cast aluminum; this is a heavy, sturdy machine. It dispenses one pencil for a nickel.
The machine pictured above is 100% original. I bought it from a friend when I visited his house. He was thinning his collection and I was trying to help him accomplish that. It really caught my eye: The bright graphics on the front glass contrast with the dull gray textured paint on the body and really pop, and the total package is in such great condition. Plus, pencil vendors are a little different, and it's nice to mix things up a little. I also knew that my wife would like this. I don't think that about many machines, but I just knew it about this one! And I was right. I'd'a bought it even if I thought she'd hate it, but in that case it'd be in my basement instead of the family room.
